Curaçao grants the first licenses under the new legislative regime

Under the country’s new regulatory regime, Curaçao’s official regulator of the land-based casino sector, the Curaçao Gaming Control Board (GCB), has granted its first licenses.

First licenses:

The company that received the inaugural direct license AND White Star BVa division of Rhino Entertainment Groupand the license is for its flagship brand CasinoDays. Apart from this, the said regulator has also issued Digital seals to 3 operators known as Small house, Geeka Corporation AND Games and moresupporting all brands and domains under their jurisdiction with the formal digital seal of validation from the said regulator.

Confirmation of the license occurred just 12 weeks after the start of licensing process for the new regime in Curacao. In this sense, the registration portal it was officially inaugurated in September. However, the candidates they couldn’t register until November 1st.

The aforementioned portal processes new applications second existing legislation with the regulator and register any sub-licensees who wish to continue operating after the adoption of the National Gambling Ordinance (LOK). As soon as the LOK comes into force, the fresh Curaçao Gambling Authority (CGA) will officially enter the scene.

Commenting on the first licenses, CEO of the GCB, Cedric Pieterszcommented: “2024 heralds a period of transformation in the regulatory landscape of Curaçao’s gambling industry. Since we opened our doors to applications less than 12 weeks ago, the volume of applications has far exceeded our expectations. The White Star license holds a special place in our hearts and history. It represents a pivotal moment in Curacao’s evolution into a top-tier gambling jurisdiction with many more licenses underway.”

Likewise, commenting on the new direct license, Ross Parkhill, CEO of Rhino Entertainment GroupShe said according to the source: “Being the first to receive this direct license is not only a privilege, but an exciting confirmation of our commitment to excellence and responsible gaming. We wholeheartedly support Curacao’s strengthened regulatory processes, recognizing the added value and prestige it brings to our license. We look forward to fostering an open and communicative relationship with the GCB, ensuring a bright and compliant future for online gaming.”

Eliminate uncertainty in Curacao:

Although there is strong support for regime change in the country, some uncertainty remains. Currently, the aforementioned country operates in accordance with National Offshore Hazardous Gaming Ordinance (NOOGH) Legislation.. However, this will be modified by the aforementioned LOK.

In January, reports emerged that the LOK, which officially entered parliament in the last month of 2023, had been refused. But those reports turned out to be true false alarms.

After, Minister of Finance of Curaçao, Javier Silvaniapublished a statement expressing his disapproval of the outrage “disinformation” about LOK. It also provided 2 clarifications about the process. The former warns against misinformation, while the latter verifies that the GCB’s licensing process remains completely the same.
